Nintendo has revealed the day-one patch notes for Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, which will officially launch on October 2. The patch notes are vague, but they claim to make gameplay improvements to Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 on Switch and Switch 2.
Among the highlights of the September 12 Nintendo Direct presentation was the announcement of Switch and Switch 2 versions of the Super Mario Galaxy games. The enhanced games are coming as part of the 40th anniversary celebration of the Super Mario Bros. series, bringing two of Nintendo’s highest-rated 3D platformers to a new audience. While the new versions do not make massive changes, they feature better resolutions, extra Storybook Chapters, an Assist Mode, and more. With the wait for release almost over, Nintendo has revealed a day-one update.
According to the patch notes (translated via Nintendo Everything), the Version 1.2.0 update for Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 makes “several” changes to improve the gameplay experience. Unfortunately, the developer gave only a few details about what to expect, leaving players to figure out what has been changed. However, it is worth noting that the update made alterations to both the Switch and Switch 2 versions. Additionally, the update made improvements specific to the Switch 2, aiming to have “smooth gameplay” on the platform.
While it is unknown how big the impact of this day-one patch will be, it is nice to see Nintendo looking to improve the gameplay experience for players ahead of launch. The Super Mario Galaxy games already ran well on the original Wii, so hopefully Nintendo can deliver an experience that is at least up to par with the originals. Fortunately, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 launch on October 2, so fans will be able to play the classic platformers soon. In fact, players should be able to apply the Version 1.2.0 update now if they have pre-loaded the game.
It is worth noting that this is not the only Super Mario game that recently received an update. On September 30, Nintendo released a surprise update for Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. As with the Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 patch, the changes appear to be on the small side, with the developer only noting that “several issues have been addressed to improve the gameplay experience.” This patch followed a more substantial Switch 2 update that provided improvements to resolution and frame rate.
The launch of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 is doubtlessly exciting for those who have been wanting to return to some of Nintendo’s best games from the Wii era, along with those who have yet to experience the planet-hopping adventures. While it is unknown when the announcement of the next 3D Super Mario game will be, gamers can at least revisit these older installments on the company’s latest hardware in the meantime.
